1909 edwardian
At the heart of this stately 1909 Edwardian home full of gorgeous historic details, a small sad kitchen with vinyl floors and just the bare necessities cried out for love. We uncovered and refinished beautiful wood floors before reconfiguring and reviving the space with warm traditional finishes. Now she boasts fixtures and appliances fit for a chef, an abundance of storage, and a sweet seating area.
In tandem, we peppered in other small upgrades throughout the home: new lighting, a dramatic wallpaper moment, and exterior accent colors to create a cohesive overall feeling.

dining mood
The main entrance to the kitchen is through a large formal dining room with beautiful wood paneling and picture rails. With plenty of sunlight pouring in through the bay windows and a lovely white box beam ceiling, we decided to go for a moody moment on the walls. Since this room serves as a preview of the kitchen, it was important to tie the two spaces together with color: dark blue, black, and walnut became the inspiration for a traditional kitchen full of warmth and texture.
table for two
The owner loves to cook with her grandchildren, so a spot for them to join her in the kitchen was at the top of her list.
The dark wood floors in this kitchen are key to the overall look and feel of the space. We were so excited to find them under the vinyl, just waiting for us to restore!
counters for days
We removed a non-structural wall where you see the central wall shelves here. Opening up that space completely changed the overall feeling of the kitchen, filling it with light and allowing us to more than double the countertop and cabinet space.
corner pocket
This is one hard working corner! A vertical cabinet tucks in neatly next to the range for easy access to cooking oils and spices, while a felt-lined pot rail showcases the chef’s prized copper pans.
Even the kitchen sink works hard, with its built-in cutting board and roll-up silicone dish drying rack.
mixing metals
I love how the mix of brass, copper, and stainless steel shine brightly against the backdrop of polished black herringbone tile. The brass pot filler was a “must have” from the outset. Is the kitchen sink close by? Sure…but does the pot filler add beauty and a sense of luxury to the cooking experience? 100% yes!
style + function
I love mixing in decorative elements alongside functional kitchen items. The last layer of styling through accessories and artwork always takes the finished room from “wow” to “whoaaaaaa!”
full circle
The lovely cream and white exterior paint scheme was in great shape, but the mauve staircase and front door needed a refresh. Since we were running blue accents throughout the dining area and kitchen, it only made sense to carry those colors through to the exterior. Fresh black iron railings and a statement light fixture set the mood for what’s to come.
